Editors' note: Aayesha (Aayesha as-Siddiqah, ‘the one who affirms the Truth’) was the daughter of Abu Bakr, Mohammed’s trusted friend and advisor. She became Mohammed’s youngest wife and was a very spirited warrior woman who led battalions. She was also the most knowledgeable of Muslim women in sacred law, religion and Islamic custom.
