Editors’ note: Young children are properly dependent on their mothers with whom they are psychically connected until they are seven years old, but ongoing dependence on our own or other people’s bodies is a weakness associated with attachment. We can slowly transfer our body dependencies to a continuous inner dependence on God. By doing this, a chief feature of love may be attracted. Dependence turned outward is weakness; turned inward it is strength.
