Greed [2]

Editors’ note: Greed exists in most people and Ramdas cites it as one of the three deadly sins of mankind. Greed for food is an obvious manifestation but we can also have greed for affection, recognition, or knowledge. Greed can make people very ineffectual through taking on too much at once. Meanness is a sort of greed and wasting the Earth’s resources another form. There is a lot of anticipation in greed for what we think we are going to get. To keep greed in check we can aim to give the body what is necessary for survival instead of wanting more and more. As a householder we can go a bit further and aim to have what is customary in our society while being nonattached to our possessions and grateful for what we have. Ramdas advises that the best way to combat greed is to aim to give service to others.
