Artist's note: The main cause of misery on Earth is disharmony; Hazrat Inayat Khan says that harmony established with everyone one meets in life tunes one’s soul with the Infinite. Unless we people of the world live in harmony with one another we will destroy civilisation as we know it, and although there is much that could well be eliminated, there is a great deal that should be cultivated. Gurdjieff called his experimental school of esoteric knowledge ‘The Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man’. The painting tries to convey the idea of the merging of man with God on two levels.
